An artistic pairing instigated by Sierra Metro, Holt and Healy have chosen to present a mutual selection of individual works. Using a chapter from art historian EH Gombrich’s book ‘The Sense of Order: A Study in the Psychology of Decorative Art’, as a nexus through which to explore the nature of their collaboration and the methods of making inherent to both their practices, the artists have each developed new works which have been effected by the idea of doubling. Although Gombrich’s chapter is by no means illustrative of these new works produced, this text, focusing on problems of decorative theory, visual perception and the symbolism of design, has provided the artists a unique language with which to articulate this collaboration.
