Ashley Nieuwenhuizen: In the Absence of Wolves
19 September - 18 October 2009
Artist Talk / Sierra Metro 1st Birthday: Thursday 1 October, 7pm

Photography: Ashley Nieuwenhuizen

Sierra Metro presents new work by artist Ashley Nieuwenhuizen. With an interest in the boundaries and analogies commonly drawn between animal and man, Nieuwenhuizen's practice investigates the realms of shamanistic and arcane ritual and behaviour. Using video, sculpture, drawing and photography to address the domestic, sacred, repulsive and seductive aspects of the animal industries, this new body of work generates an unsettling psychological parallel.

Nieuwenhuizen graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone in 2008. Recent exhibitions include 'Mini Mini' in Arizona, 'RSA New Contemporaries' in Edinburgh, 'Moult-In' in Dundee and 'As We Speak' in Glasgow. This exhibition has been made possible with the financial assistance of the Dundee Visual Artists Award Scheme.
